Limerick

There once was a dog named Matt
Who chased a fat fluffy cat
His tummy started to tickle
So he ate a pickle
And then slipped and fell on a bat

There once was a girl named me
She got stung on the knee by a bee
Not only that,
But she got bit by a bat
And then said “OWEEEE!”

There once was a boy named Craig
All he would do is beg
He would never awake
Unless you hit him with a snake
Until one bit him on his leg.

Poem response #3

In the poem http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/20924 Tender Buttons [Chicken] it repeats "Chicken." a lot. I think when it says "Chicken." it is kind of saying chickens are boring that is why there is no exclamation point after chicken. The fourth line "Alas a dirty word, alas a dirty third alas a dirty third, alas a dirty bird." had a lot of assonance and repition. I think that the poem would make a good song and would have a good rhythm. There is some interior rhymes in the last line. In the last line I found it interesting that she did not make a new line after putting a period.

Haiku

Seasonal
Leaves falling on ground
Squirrels fight over acorns
Leaves losing color

Seasonal
Red roses blooming
Children laughing and playing
Summer's almost here

Seasonal
April leads to May
May leads to June then July
August…..almost school:(

Nature
Woodpeckers pecking
Old gray bark chipping away
Peck, Peck, Peck, Peck, Peck

Nature
Waterfall flowing
Fish jumping out of water
Birds flying above

Nature
Climbing really high
Looking down from mountain top
How do I get down?

Modern Life
Got to do homework
Is this answer wrong or right?
Ahhhhhhh someone help me!

Modern Life

Marathon bombings
America has problems
North Korea…Stop.

Feelings: abstract noun poem

Quiet is midnight black silence unbroken by the border of light.

Boredom is foggy gray awakening nothing.

Success is cloud white tuxedo going to the wedding.

Loneliness is bark brown biting away at my hope.

Love is rose petal pink hearts fluttering around your head.

Happiness is grass green berries feeding the mind with joys.

Sadness is ocean blue waves thrashing away at the shore of your heart.

Warnings are caution tape yellow clues studying your senses.

Fears are old bark gray trees that never stop growing.

Awkwardness is stop sign red feelings flooding the air.

Poem response: Playgrounds

In the poem http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/20297 by Laurence Alma-Tadema describes the way children think of men(adults). He is pretty much stating in the poem that children see or notice many more things that adults do not. When kids are at the sea or ocean they can find pretty rocks, sand dollars, and beautiful shells. While adults can rarely find 3 agates and a shell. At the end he says " But, when the snow is on the ground And all the puddles freeze, I wish that I were very tall, High up above the trees." I'm not sure if that means that the child wants to be dead and in heaven or tall like a adult.

Response to: How Little Red Riding Hood Came To Be Eaten

In the poem http://www.poetry-archive.com/c/how_little_red_riding_hood_came_to_be_eaten.html (How Little Red Riding Hood Came To Be Eaten) by Guy Wetmore Carryl is a poem explaining what happened during Little Red Riding Hoods life before she got eaten. Her parents were clever and cautious.  Red's parents showed her ways around.  If she was obedient she was thanked, anything else she was spanked.  Red's at 6 years old was generous and smart. At 13 years old she was learning to be a professional nurse.  One part of the poem it says "The young paragon might have grown, if not nipped in the bud, but the following year struck her smiling career with a dull and sickening thud!" Red obviously got hurt somehow. Paragon means an example of excellence: somebody or something that is the very best example of something, so Red was someone people looked up to. She had a basket on her arm filled with " Jellies, ices, gruel, spices, grilled chicken legs, savory stew, a novel or two, hot-water can, Japanese fan, and a bottle of eau-de-cologne." Red did not recognize the Grandma because it was not her grandma it was a wolf. Guy added a lot of emotion to the poem and that made it more fun to read. I like how Guy added a moral to the story.
